lemongrass thai bistro

Ohh, the sweet smell of Asian cuisine! Can't you smell it? Well, this place has a very special spot in my heart. Lemongrass Thai Bistro opened up a few months ago in my local, historic downtown area. I've heard all great things about them and really wanted to make my way down to check them out for myself. I even talked my babe into going and trying it out with me.

We enjoy trying out new food establishments together, apparently.

Last December, I finally bid adieu to the "creamy crack," the great white hype a.k.a. relaxers. I, like many other black women now, stopped dousing my scalp in chemicals strong enough to disintegrate a coke can (Seriously, check it out here) and I was overjoyed! I was going to be a fierce natural sista with this big, awesome, curly hair and it was going to be great! But I was also hesitant. How was my hair going to look? Would I still feel sexy and beautiful? I had worn sew-ins and relaxers for so long, I had almost forgotten what my natural texture was like!
Hello my favorite people of the web. Yes, I know I've been missing in action but all for a great reason. If you noticed, the blog underwent a mini-update so new logo, continuous color, and a bit of organization. I hope you like it. It's still not perfected to my liking though. I'm also making several changes and plans with my freelance design business.

Any who, I wanted to share a special skincare product with you that I have been using and loving for over a month now. Its the natural, anti-aging Ageless Derma Glycolic Facial Cleanser. This stuff has been a life saver for me. Some of you may even be wondering why I even need a cleanser made for anti-aging skin. In my opinion, why not start caring for youthful skin now for the mature future? You may recall my review on this company's satin lip gloss, which is also a nice product.
how to stop negative thoughts about your body

We've all been there before. You know, having negative thoughts about our body. Even I know the feeling of wanting to look a certain way physically. The things we do to please the eyes of "others" because society tells us what is beautiful and what is not. There just comes a time where you have to fully accept you as you are. We all aren't meant to be that thick and bootylicious model or that slim and super fit lady next door.

Sometimes.... you just have to come to terms with loving who you were intended to be. If you're not happy with something, FIX IT because YOU want to make the change. Don't ever alter yourself for the sake of others or to conform to the non-standards given off by society.

My guest contributor today, Melanie, sheds light on her own personal experience with body image. She also shares how she overcame those insecurities.

Yep. It's that time once more. The end of another wonderful, heartbreaking, exciting, disappointing, joyous, and sad year is upon us. I've really gone through A LOT of things this year. Both good and bad. All, of course, great learning experiences. I took quite some time to myself to just reflect on the goals I was able to meet this year. Majority of those goals, I accomplished. Hey... it's better than setting up a list of false resolutions for the sake of advertisement and not moving a foot, right?

Well, this is pretty awesome. Horoscope stalkers rejoice... NOT! If you make AVID use of saying, "I'm (zodiac sign here) so I am blah, blah, blah and you are la, la, la" to justify your existence, stop now. I'll explain why later. I find it completely amazing when we walk around like we know ourselves SO much when we probably only know 85% of who we are. Peep this cool little discovery. I recently was able to discover the secret language of birthdays for myself and a few other people I know. VERY interesting facts that covered our personalities and hew we interact throughout life an with others. It was also weird accurate of everyone I looked up, including myself.
diy gel manicure halloween breast cancer awareness

Ay dios mio! Well, I'm back for part two of my first end of the year diy gel manicure series. Since the month of October celebrates not only a festive occasion for trick or treaters, but it also highlights the importance of breast cancer awareness month. Keep your boobies in check ladies!! With the past week being in cahoots and this post being a week late, thanks to my random outbreak of irritating hand eczema, I managed to keep this ball rolling.

Want to know how I achieved this look? Nice way to pay homage to two events without going overboard right? lol
Hey lovies! You're probably wondering, "What the heck is a stache?" lol.. it's meant to be pronounced as "Stash". You know like "mustache". That being anything I enjoy sharing with others, of course! Anywho.... before I get into detail about this stripper though...

perfectly posh stripper giveaway

I thought I'd share a little something and someone special!

Somehow a movement that began as a way to encourage, empower, and help black women to be free with their hair and love who they are naturally, suddenly turned hostile to women doing just that. The natural hair community backlash order just came out of nowhere. Yes lawwwd.... smh. The rules people have just put out regarding natural hair are pure ridiculous most times.

Here we go again.. right? I believe I speak for all natural hair ladies when I say that when it comes to truly being an "individual" while keeping the dignity of our hair, sometimes even our own be out to get us.
I’d rather be doing this than to be just sitting around twiddling my thumbs.

That's what this awesome man, James Boatner, 63, also known as West Oakland's very own, "Clean-Up" said. I ran across James' story on Facebook and it just stole my heart. Needless to say, it's always wonderful to read about the goodness of REAL people who are truly great and genuine human beings. Clean-Up has been a homeless man for 15 years who took the initiative to start spending his days sweeping up the sidewalks in front of homes and businesses around the city of West Oakland.

Clean-Up's story is so moving and powerful that muralist, Kate DeCiccio painted a mural of him on the wall right next to where he sleeps.

Wuddup peeps! This is probably one of the hottest topics in natural hair town right now. Is it just me or are we beginning to see major companies jump the natural hair broom and adding more ethnic curls into their commercials nowadays? Of course! Just this year alone, it's skyrocketed!

I know I'm not alone on this. Mainstream natural hair is definitely proving to be an asset to more and more brands now. Brands are even causing controversy for even featuring the "new" American family with curls now. Remember the "Just Checking Cherrios Commercial" that went viral back in May? I think it's cool that brands are bringing us naturalistas attention. We're the ish! Even though it's all about politics and money for many of these companies... natural hair is where the money is now! Can't deny it.
natural hair regimen type 4

Okay, before you continue to read after noticing my forehead and saying "What the heck is that?" My hair was indeed wet in this photo and yes, that is hair product on my forehead.. hair mud mask actually lol. Let's carry on.
This post has been a long time coming! Goodness. To get you all up to date on my latest hair craze, my better half decided that I should give hair color a try. At first I didn't want to alter my previous natural hair regimen to make due with the much longer process of caring for color-treated natural hair but at the same time there was a little part of me that wanted those vibrant colored tresses I had been spotting all over the city this past summer.

Leave it to the men in our lives to be bad influences lol. After being a little wussy about it while strolling around my local Sally's Beauty Supply store, my "hubby" decided to point out the blondest of blondes. I was like "HELLLLL NO sir...". He was so serious too about the color.

Hey you lovely people! I'm excited about the month of October. Why? This month I plan to share my very first blog series with you on none other than beautiful gel manicures. The DIY Gel Manicure series will share some of my favorite polish colors for Fall weather as well as some beautiful nail art here and there. You're sure to love it! Check out part one below: Smoky Brown Beauté Gel Manicure

You know how it sometimes feels like living on Earth is much of a daze? Is it just me that feels that way? Well, maybe you can relate more to the feeling of experiencing something quite intimate or soothing for the very first time. This is what I have been doing. Indulging in the wonderful things that life has to offer. Some things much like forbidden fruit.

taco mac atlanta

Oh yes... foodie alert! I don't think you all realize how much I LOVE indulging in new foods and restaurants. A few months ago, June to be exact, the babe and I enjoyed a day in Atlanta after I had come up to spend some time away from home. Per the usual, food was on the agenda. We are always down for trying new places but this go 'round, Taco Mac Atlanta was new for just me (lol).

Hello beauties!!!

To all of you lip makeup lovers, this is just for you. I was contacted by a representative of a company known as Ageless Derma to review a product of theirs recently. I received the Ageless Derma Satin Lip Gloss in Smokey Violet in the mail just a few weeks ago so this post is well overdue. It's life, you know? I had never heard of the company so for the sake of this post and my curiosity, I wanted to give them a good ol' looking up.

"Ageless Derma, the innovative leader in the anti-aging skincare industry. Based out of Anaheim, California, Ageless Derma offers a comprehensive skincare line designed to diminish wrinkles, fine lines, and dark spots, and improve elasticity and firmness of the skin. Known for

Oh my, it has been quite a while since my last online shopping haul. You're in for a treat with this one. I have four pairs of beauties to share in this fashionable shoe haul. To celebrate my accomplishments this past year, I decided to reward myself with some retail therapy in the shoe department. It's literally been over a year since I last purchased a pair of heels. A world record in my book.

I hope you love pictures because I do. I wanted to give good detail of my purchases so if you decide you want to add these babies to your shoe closet, then shoot for it and know exactly what you're getting. I am SO ready for the Fall and Winter seasons. Here in Georgia, it seems as if we won't feel the real cold weather until January 2014... BOO!

Welp. Let's get into it!
Hey again everyone! It's been a long time coming but this post is for all my bold lipstick-wearing ladies. I often get tons of compliments and questions regarding the lip colors that I tend to rock quite often. I'm a big lipstick lover. I will say that all the colors I share below may not be for everyone. If you're someone that loves to stand out and express a lot more than just a pretty face, these 9 bold lip colors for women of color will be just for you!

There use to be some taboo stigma to wearing super bright and bold colors on your lips. Most often black women would simply stick to neutrals and reds. Even red would send some ladies running for the mountains. Fashion and beauty is changing so rapidly that it's had to keep up sometimes. A woman can truly shine and speak without a word just by the color on her lips. Did you know colors have psychological meanings? Yep. It's not just serving design and interior decorating purposes. Lipsticks for women of color can range from bold hues of blue to deep shades of red. Talk about instant fun!

You may remember back in December 2012 the name, Rhonda Lee, 37. The former meteorologist of Louisiana's own KTBS-TV that was fired for defending her short natural hairstyle via social media platform, Facebook. tastykake kandy bar kakes

Heyyyy! So, to add to my Influenster review series, I wanted to share something sweet! In my Spring Fever Voxbox, I received a Kandy Bar Kake. Totally new to me but I figured it was worth giving a try instead of allowing someone else to indulge in it.

According to TastyKake, they are "The Best of Both Worlds! The taste of a candy bar, the freshness of Tastykake! Light and fluffy chocolate enrobed cakes with a delicious créme filling in a unique kandy bar shape. These delicious kakes are made with real Hershey's flavors and will grab you by the taste buds. "

They come in three assorted flavors and I had the pleasure of indulging in the "S'mores" flavored TastyKake.

straightening type 4 natural hair
Yay! I was finally able to share this straightening type 4 natural hair upload and post with you fabulous people! I recently flat-ironed my hair for the very FIRST time since big chopping back in 2011. So for my two-year natural hair anniversary (March 2013), I decided to celebrate by straightening my hair. Don't judge me! I know many people question, "Why go natural just to revert to straightened hair?" ...Well, for the sake of switching up style.

I've always been the type of person to have so many different hairstyles. You should check out My Natural Hair Journey and My 2011 Hair Growth videos. Blue hair was even in the bunch, lol. You may have noticed my blog's banner, with the green lips and straightened hair. It's a staple now. Don't worry natural hair lovers, I'll have an updated natural hair journey video soon. My hair has grown like wildfire these last two years. Watch the straightening type 4 natural hair video below to find out one of my methods to straightening my natural hair WITHOUT losing my curl pattern.

broadway nails imPRESS press on manicure

Whew! It's been a while since I shared some nail love on here. So I was given the opportunity to test out and review a set of Broadway Nails Impress Press On Manicure product. Let me first give a disclaimer before digging into my review. I do not have children and throughout my day I'm mostly at my laptop, typing up a storm. The only time water or lotion hits my hands is when I shower and wash my hands. Basically, my day is wear/tear-free from hard labor.

Now, onto the information you're wanting to know about the Broadway Nails Impress Press On ManicureI haven't worn press on nails in FOREVER. I can remember trying them when I was a kid for the fun of it. Since I didn't know any better then, I thought they were cool up until I got deep into my love for nails and color. Thus, acrylic and Youtube came into my life.

Hey lovers, I'm back with an updated review for you! This post may give just some "extra" information about me physically in general BUT, that's okay. I love to be thorough and we're all ladies here reading this post...right? lol.

u by kotexAnywho, I was selected to be apart of the U by Kotex™ campaign and with that came free samples! I received a box of U by Kotex™ Click compact tampons in "Super" to "Do The Demo". In other words, to try out. Previously, I used the tampon and reviewed them for "early day discharge". It's not to be used for that for an entire day or daily period. You can risk getting an infection by doing so for long periods of time/daily. You can learn more here. I was able to really "Do The Demo" and test out the product while on my cycle.

Before I get into that, let me give you a little background information on the Kotex™ brand. I've had the pleasure of using them several times for my own feminine hygiene.

diy birthday hair
Last year, March to be exact, I uploaded a tutorial video to Youtube entitled, "DIY Birthday Hair". It's a tutorial of a curly protective style I did for my birthday last year. When I uploaded the video to Youtube, I had no idea how popular it was going to be. To this day, a year later, it's still my most popular and most viewed upload in all my short Youtube life. (Shameless Plug: 24,877 views and counting...)

If you haven't seen it, you should definitely check it out below. I've gotten TONS of questions regarding the hair, the longevity, and so forth. You know, the girly "needs to know" stuff. I had a fun time rocking the curly boho style with my DIY Birthday Hair. So for you gals who had and may still have tons of questions, I give you the answers to reference.

Products: Freetress Synthetic Weave (Bohemian Curl), Moisturizing Products, Weave Glue. All products, except Suave & Shea Moisture, were purchased at my local beauty supply store.
Hey lovers! So I came across something I believed you would love. More so if you're a chameleon like me and change your hair style up quite often. Mayvenn Hair Beauty Supply is a new, and thriving online beauty supply store for women of color.

Looks like I have a new best hairfriend.

If you don't know by now, the African American hair care product industry is a $9 Billion a year market where consumers spend 3 times more than any other demographic in the U.S. There are 95% of African American hair salons that do not have a retail component to their business. Products are currently purchased at local beauty supply stores by majority of women seeking a new "do".

buca di beppo italian restaurantOh yes indeed! A couple of weeks ago, my sister, better half, and I went out to my favorite hotspot, Buca di Beppo Italian. My love and I first discovered this hidden gem one day while  scrolling through the Northern mall shopping center. We are food junkies so trying out new places of indulgence really gets us going. Buca di Beppo Italian Restaurant is a pretty awesome family-style restaurant that caters to parties, special occasions  or food connoisseurs  Their fresh, authentic Italian food is served family style.

Our first visit was great! WARNING: The dishes on the menu are HUGE! If you're on a date, one entree' is made to feed up to 2-3 people. That's what they call a "small" portion. The "large" portioned entrees can feed anywhere from 4-6 people. WOW, right?

Anywho, after a pretty relaxed day, we decided to invite my sister along to try out Buca di Beppo Italian Restaurant. Check out what we dived out carnivorous teeth into.
I had the pleasure of being selected to review the Palmolive Soft Touch Voxbox, courtesy of Influenster. This was my first voxbox and it was unexpected, honestly. You can imagine my excitement once I received the package in the mail. I got a cute little pink and green Palmolive Soft Touch Voxbox package that had two 25oz bottles of dish liquid inside.

Palmolive Soft Touch VoxBox Review + Video Unboxing

Palmolive is Tough on Grease, Soft on Hands. Each person that received a Palmolive Soft Touch Voxbox, all got two bottles. I received the Vitamin E and Aloe liquids. Others received the third Cocoa Butter dish liquid as one of their two to review. I was excited to test both products out so being a girl, I naturally used the pink bottle first.
